Pressure from CPI(M) & Christian land mafia group : Raju Narayanaswami decides to quit9/8/2007 5:14:33 AM HK
KOCHI : Raju Narayanaswami, an honest civil servant & Idukki district collection who was topper in 1991 IAS has decided to quite from the present post due to severe pressure from the CPI(M) & Christian land mafia group in Kerala. Narayanaswamy, who took his B Tech degree in Computer Science from IIT Chennai in 1989, is expecting an assignment in the IT sector
The immediate reason for his disillusionment could be the findings he made about the involvement of Kerala Congress (J) leader TU Kuruvila in shady deals on Munnar Government lands. Kuruvila was forced to resign as Kerala's Public Works Minister on Monday for allegedly misusing his position for negotiating a land deal for his children with a Kuwait-based businessman. It was Narayanaswami, as Idukki District Collector, who had given the details of the Idukki land in the illegal deal to Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan in a report. He is also irked by the Government move to validate all the 532 illegal title deeds on lands issued by an official who was not competent for the job.
A reporter quoted him as saying, "Efforts are being made by the Government to ratify all the nearly 532 illegal pattas (title deeds), issued by former deputy thahsildar MI Raveendran, which includes the pattas of the CPI and CPI(M) offices in Idukki."
Idukki district has become a land grabbers den, he says. "I came to Idukki with the ambition that all land grabbers will be thrown out. But the death knell of the mission has been rung by the party in power. I do not want to be a mute spectator. I may go on leave in a day or two," he said.
He said Kuruvilla's name was not mentioned in the report, but what was clearly mentioned was that the Minister's son had allegedly threatened the village officer of Rajakumari village in Idukki for "manipulating" records. "There was blatant violation of rules, the property had been undervalued," Narayanaswamy said. Government land had been shown to have been purchased. Kuruvilla had rung him up 19 times from different mobiles on a single day ordering him not to take steps against his relatives.
Kuruvila's party chairman PJ Joseph's relatives had occupied about 50 acres of land near the Greenberg Estate in the district while they had title deeds for only 15 acres. "The land is in the name of Joseph's wife's sister and Kuruvila's son," he said.
Pointing that the initial days of Mission Munnar was a success, he said that later politicians of all hues, "who had their narrow objective to torpedo the mission, succeeded."
